Along with long-time friend and partner Eric Baker, the BLIK Studio has been spending the last couple of weeks refining galleys and approving final press proofs for a new book of ours – American Trademarks: A Compendium. Published through Chronicle Books of San Francisco. This 256 page volume will contain over 1,000 historical trademarks, with essays and examples of identity work from such noted designers as Charles Anderson, Stephen Doyle, Paula Scher and Ben Pieratt.
“The process of researching and categorizing these historical icons was extremely rewarding,” noted Tyler Blik, Principal of BLIK. “As designers, Eric and I became just as excited in discovering the naïve and often-humorous cultural vernacular as we were with the well-designed and aesthetic ones. We began to not only look at this as a design exercise, but as an anthropological one—discovering the many historical milestones of our human endeavors and the ever-expanding and evolving technologies of America’s commerce and culture.”
